​​Animal Worlds is a series of playful clay workshops where children are invited to bring animals to life through ceramics. The series was first run in July 2026 at Urban Clay Studio in Reggio Emilia for kids aged 7+.

 

Over three workshops, participants explored a different animal theme each week:

• Animal Bowls: transforming a simple bowl into a favourite animal using ears, tails, faces, textures, and other playful details.

• Dinosaurs: choosing a dinosaur and learning how to model it step by step in clay.

• Invent your own creature: mixing different animals together to create an entirely new species with its own story.

To accompany each workshop, I created a set of original activity cards and worksheets that helped children explore ideas while leaving plenty of room for their own imagination.

For "Animal Bowls", children could browse illustrated idea cards showing different ways to transform a bowl, then choose their favourite starting point and make it their own.

For "Dinosaurs" , I designed a set of dinosaur cards featuring different species with fun facts and key characteristics on the back, alongside a simple visual guide that broke the modelling process into easy-to-follow steps.

For "Invent your own Creature", children used collage activities, creative prompt cards, and drawing sheets to combine animal features, invent new habitats, and dream up creatures that had never existed before.​​​
